Locus | Location Based Data

Amplify your transportation outcomes with Location-based Services Data

Your transportation agency is entrusted to answer challenging travel behavior questions and make decisions that impact the people who live and work in your area. Using the right data and the right methodology can help generate the right solutions for your community in a timely fashion.

To help, Cambridge Systematics created Locus, a suite of customizable data products built using anonymized Location-based Services (LBS) data. These products can be used readily with traditional transportation data sources to provide flexible, current and right-sized solutions for your agency.

Pairing the data you have with the data you need, Locus offers findings you can trust.

LBS data are spatially accurate, geolocation data generated by smartphone applications. We combine these data with existing  transportation and demographic data collected through traffic counts, household and transit surveys, and farecard and toll data to provide you with tailored, reliable, ground-truthed findings that you can apply confidently to your work.

Locus helps enhance the data you have gathered through traditional means with LBS data to capture trends and changes in travel behavior from a representative sample of your community.

Use LBS data to understand the impacts of COVID-19 at a granular level

The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting stay-at-home orders have significantly impacted transportation, travel patterns and local economies across the country.

To help agencies understand these impacts and take data-driven actions to move their communities through recovery, we have launched two new products:

·       Traffic Footfall Tracker which measures daily activity at over 650,000 national brands and entertainment venues at a store-level.

·       Travel Tracker which measures travel trends, such as travel sheds, number of trips, travel by time of day and changes in trip lengths also at a granular level.

We update these products with current data each week so local and state governments can study evolving travel behavior changes; compare the rates at which neighborhoods are recovering; calibrate and enhance regional travel demand models; and perform scenario analyses to help with recovery and longer-term planning. These new tools compare current observed travel against data from mid-January 2020 to measure how a region and its neighborhoods are performing compared to the area’s pre-COVID baselines.

As with all of the LOCUS products, our focus remains providing accurate, actionable metrics while maintaining user privacy.  To learn how these products can help your agency and community, email Pragun Vinayak to set up a demonstration.

Did you get a representative sample from the last survey your agency conducted? LBS data can help you obtain a robust sample of your region’s population.
