Featured in Roads & Bridges Magazine, Mark Jensen, principal, shares the benefits of truck platooning and findings from Caltrans’ demonstration on public roads in California. This project was funded under the FHWA Exploratory Advanced Research Program. Caltrans led the project team, supported by UC Berkeley PATH, Volvo, Cambridge Systematics and LA Metro. In the article, Jensen digs into the regulations that are causing the trucking industry to turn to automation, the information and communication technology infrastructure needed for truck platooning, and steps the public and private sector need to take to make implementing this technology possible.
