The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) announced on July 18, 2018 the release of Report 868: Cell Phone Location Data for Travel Behavior Analysis to provide guidelines for using these anonymized data to inform transportation projects. The research was conducted by Cambridge Systematics staff Kimon Proussaloglou, Executive Vice President and Principal; Dan Beagan, Principal; and Anurag Komanduri, Principal. Dr. Marta Gonzalez and Dr. Shan Jiang from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology played a key role in this project by analyzing raw cell phone data for travel behavior and contrasting their estimates of travel flows with measures from traditional data and models.
