Cambridge Systematics provided support to Uri Avin, University of Maryland on NCHRP 08-36, Research for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Standing Committee on Planning, Task 117: Sketch Planning Tools for Regional Sustainability. The objective of this research is to provide a synthesis of the state of practice for generally available, "easier-to-use" scenario/sketch planning tools that can be used to analyze the impact of regional sustainability measures, including when and how the tools are currently being used, an evaluation of their relative strengths and weaknesses, and the resources required for a variety of types of use. The synthesis should also identify how each tool has been integrated into regional planning processes, practice and tools, and will add to the extant body of knowledge.
