The Heartland Port Authority is making significant progress in the development of a Missouri River port. The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce applied for a $750,000 federal Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant to fund preliminary engineering studies, which would be bolstered by a combined $187,500 from Cole County, Callaway County, and the City of Jefferson City.
Two sites have been identified for the port. One option is to build a port in southern Jefferson City. A second option would build a port in Callaway County in addition to the southern Jefferson City port. Cambridge Systematics conducted a feasibility study that revealed the potential costs and benefits of both development opportunities. Click here for details.
